Potential SunRail customers will get a first look at the new train at Church Street Station in downtown Orlando on Thursday, October 10, 2013, between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The train set will include a new SunRail locomotive and two passenger cab cars. The train display is part of a couple of transportation related events — including the launch of a Carshare program — that coincide with “The State of the City” event, also taking place on Thursday at the nearby Amway Center. The aim is to spread excitement and interest in the two projects.
Those viewing the SunRail train need to know that Church Street station still is an active construction zone, and there will be no access inside the vehicles.
The public is reminded that freight trains and Amtrak continue to operate on the SunRail corridor, and federal and state safety regulations require that pedestrians and motorists remain a safe distance (at least 25-30 feet) from the tracks at all times. In addition, construction of the first 12 SunRail stations is ongoing and station areas are off-limits to everyone but safety-certified workers wearing appropriate personal protection equipment.
