An attempted armed robbery at a grocery store on south Rio Grande Avenue on Saturday night has left one man dead and one of the shooters injured.
Deputies said that based on preliminary investigation, an armed man entered the JC Grocery store on 1491 south Rio Grande Avenue close to 11:00 pm on Saturday night. A store clerk saw the suspected gunman entering, displaying a handgun and pulling a mask over his face. The clerk quickly drew his own pistol and shots were fired and the victim, believed to be a customer, fell to the floor. The suspect fled the scene, but not before being shot by the clerk.
When deputies arrived on the scene, the victim was found lying at the entrance of the store with an gunshot wound. Orange County Fire Rescue, who also came to the scene treated the victim and transported him to the Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
There are news reports that deputies later tracked down the suspected gunman and found him with a gunshot wound to the torso.
Deputies have not released the name of the deceased, a white male, believed to be a customer at the store. The names of the shooter, a black male, nor the clerk involved in the incident, have not been released either.
