Ann Sonntag, publisher of the Orlando Business Journal, will receive the Historical Society of Central Florida’s highest honor, the John Young History Maker Present award. The John Young History Maker Past award will be given posthumously to former Mayor Carl Langford, Orlando’s longest-serving mayor, 1967-1980, who passed away July 9, 2011. The Historical Society of Central Florida will announce the recipient of the 2012 John Young History Maker Future Award and scholarship at the celebration. Bright House Networks is the presenting sponsor for the event.
The John Young History Maker Award, named after Capt. John Young, is given each year to Central Floridians whose achievements have made a historic impact on the community. The History Maker Celebration is the Historical Society’s largest fundraiser of the year. The gala event is expected to draw nearly 500 guests. Funds raised from the event support nationally important exhibitions and educational programs that served more than 150,000 children and adults in the community last year alone.
