The School Board of Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS), at the meeting held on October 8, was pleased to recognize Seminole State College (SSC) for the unique and special relationship it has with the school district while also honoring the winners of the 2013 “Let’s Read, Seminole!” summer reading program.
SCPS and SSC have formed exceptional partnerships over the years, some of which include: dual enrollment programs, pathways for high school students to participate in SSC programs, and joint efforts to reduce remediation and ensure students are college-ready. Both are also extremely proud to share synergies in their Hospitality, Energy, and Bio-Science programs. Thus, giving students an early-start into potential career-focused professions.
The winners of the 2013 “Let’s Read, Seminole!” summer reading program included:
- Adriana LaBarbera, 3rd Grade, Carillon Elementary
- Chloe Pinkston, 5th Grade, Evans Elementary
- James Combs, 3rd Grade, Goldsboro Elementary
- Matthew Jebb, 2nd Grade, Lake Orienta Elementary
- Chloe Gallant, 6th Grade, Chiles Middle School
- Fiona McIntosh, 6th Grade, Rock Lake Middle School
- Ryan Nolen, 11th Grade, Crooms High School
- Katherine Reyes, 11th Grade, Winter Springs High School
Each student was presented with their own personal Nexus 7 tablet with instructions for downloading free eBooks from their school library. The “Let’s Read, Seminole!” summer reading program encourages students to continue reading throughout their summer break to help avoid learning losses for when they return to school.
