It’s official– Attorney General Bill McCollum has announced that he plans to run for governor instead of seeking a second term.
McCollum, a Republican, is the first candidate of his party to enter the race. He was elected as Florida’s attorney general in 2006 and is best known in that position for fighting Internet crimes against children.
McCollum spent over two decades in Congress and served 23 years in the Naval Reserve, before retiring as a commander.
Another major Republican likely to enter the race for governor is Charles Bronson, who is currently Agriculture Commissioner.
Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, was the first major Democratic candidate to announce last Wednesday, that she would be running for governor rather than a second term.
