Culture can be found everywhere in “The City Beautiful” if you look closely enough. One of the best examples is located in the affluent Orlando suburb of Winter Park.
Situated on more than three acres overlooking Lake Osceola, the Albin Polasek House and Studio includes hundreds of works by the Czech-American sculptor. The Mediterranean-style home is where Polasek spent his retirement. Portions of the house as well as the adjoining chapel are open to the public and contain a large sampling of his art and personal possessions. Visitors are able to stroll the perfectly-manicured grounds following the house tour.
Scattered throughout the property are a number of religious-themed sculptures, which Polasek came to be known for. Particularly impressive are the Stations of the Cross and a Victorious Christ sculpture at the center of the garden.
The Albin Polasek House and Studio is located at 633 Osceola Aveunue and is open year-round except major holidays. For a nominal fee, you’ll receive access to the house, chapel and gardens. There’s also a small gift shop with a neighboring gallery area that features rotating exhibits. For more information, visit polasek.org.
