Workforce Central Florida is expanding its summer youth program in a year-round effort to reach more students and provide additional opportunities for employment. Project CoNEXTion will develop a talent pipeline for the future by transitioning youths from education to jobs and careers.
Youths ages 16-21 will improve their job skills by participating in a variety of real-world work experiences. The eight-week internships range from 10 to 15 hours a week during the school year or 30 hours a week during the summer break. Students will be paid $8.25 an hour.
Participants will work at government agencies, private businesses and nonprofits throughout Central Florida. WCF career specialists will monitor the student’s progress during the work experience. Applicants can be full-time students, high school drop-outs or unemployed but must live in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake or Sumter counties.
Youths who have previously participated in WCF programs are not eligible for the internships because of federal funding limitations; however they will receive job placement services.
Project CoNEXTion is paid for through the Workforce Investment Act and participants must meet eligibility requirements. Applicants must apply online at www.workforcecentralflorida.com/youth/. For more information, call 407-531-1215.
