Exactly one year after George Zimmerman was arrested for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, his mother, Gladys, has written a letter in which she describes her son’s arrest as “unfortunate” and expressing “incalculable gratitude” to all those who have provided “unwavering moral and spiritual support.”
Gladys Zimmerman said her son was “arrested for a crime he did not commit, solely to placate the masses,” and that April 11, 2012 will be “forever remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans.”
She has very strong words for the media noting, “It is astounding that despite the vast amount of information and evidence now available that supports George’s self-defense claim, the majority of the media avoids its publication.”
“The media, with the help of social media made it their prerogative to judge and sentence George before and after his arrest,” the letter states.
Gladys Zimmerman concludes her letter by saying her son “has always told the truth and your trust is well-placed. The upcoming trial will not disappoint you.”
Zimmerman, who admitted to killing Martin said, he did so in self-defense. His trial is expected to begin in June.
