Man Arrested, Drives with Emergency Lights, Help Please

On August 14, 2009 Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Roger Wall, 45 years, for violation of Florida State statutes, 843.081 unlawful use of certain lights, and 843.085 unlawful use of police badges.

Deputies took note of Wall who was driving a white Crown Victoria northbound on Harrell Road with emergency lights illuminated in a pattern similar to law enforcement unmarked vehicles.  Not recognizing the vehicle, deputies followed Wall, who parked in a driveway on Harrell Road.

Upon getting out of the car, deputies questioned Wall enquiring which agency he worked for.  Wall said that he did not belong to any agency, fire or police.  Further, Wall said he was just returning from his bar and recalled he hadn’t taken out his dog and he needed to get home to do so, that’s when he had turned on his emergency lights.  When questioned further, Wall said he had bought the light system from E-Bay and had installed it himself. He said that he owned the vehicle and that it was all paid for.

The interior of the vehicle displayed like that of an unmarked law enforcement vehicle complete with handcuffs hanging from the alley light in the driver’s side pillar. There was a center console with a scanner that was scanning Orange County Sheriff’s Office radio transmissions the search of the vehicle was conducted. The back seat had a chain latched into the rear seatbelt behind the driver’s seat has if to restrain individuals. The dash had a multitude of hand held microphone looking devices and a handheld light activating switch to change the flash and directions of the lights. The back of the trunk of the vehicle had badging stating “Police Interceptor” that is clearly visible.

The vehicle was seized after S.O. legal was informed of the incident.  Wall made an unsolicited remark indicating the vehicle was a former federal law enforcement vehicle.

After finding probable cause, Wall was arrested.
