Celebrity bike builder, Billy Lane was sentenced to six years in jail, three years probation and a suspended drivers license for life, today, by a Florida judge.
Lane was sentenced on account of the head on traffic crash which left Sebastian Park Inlet ranger, Gerald Morelock, dead.
Police say that Lane’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he crossed a double yellow line to pass slow traffic, crashing his Dodge pickup truck head-on into 56-year-old Morelock’s motorcycle on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach on September 4, 2006.
Earlier today, before the sentencing, friends, family and also the victim’s family asked the judge for leniency. The victim’s brother and nephew said that they hoped that something positive could come out of the tradegy such as the establishment of a non-profit foundation to help children, which Morelock so much enjoyed.
