A Orlando police officer was shot at by a masked suspect in the Baldwin Park area on Wednesday, the Orlando Police Department said.

Authorities say, just after 3:00 p.m., the unnamed police officer, who was working a traffic enforcement detail, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and issued a citation.

Authorities also say, a short time later, the driver of the vehicle returned to the area driving a motorized scooter and wearing a mask.  The man  intentionally ran a stop sign and when the officer attempted to stop him, he crashed.

As the officer approached the suspect, the driver fought violently with the cop, shooting at the officer an unknown number of times with a hand gun.

Neither the officer or the suspect received gunshot wounds.   The suspect was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

The shooting happened near Fox Street and Juel Avenue.
