A Lakeland physician, who has been in trouble with the law before, was arrested today, accused of trafficking in Hydrocodone and Oxycodine, and assisting others to obtain controlled substances.

44-year-old Dr. Aaron Roush, who is board certified in surgery, was placed under arrest Thursday, after deputies served a search warrant on Uphoria Medical Spa located at 3510 South Florida Avenue, in Lakeland.  Deputies said, Roush was overprescribing controlled substances and prescribing them without doing medical examinations.

Undercover detectives of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office made appointments with Dr. Roush and were seen by him in his office over the past several months.

According to deputies, in all five visits by the undercover detectives, Roush gave out scores of Hydrocodine and Oxydodine pills, for what one of the detectives described as “a little bit of pain and aching in her knee.”  Roush, at no time took the temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height or weight, of the undercover detectives.

In one instance, where Roush told the detective that her X-ray looked normal, he also told her they could “push on and find something wrong.”  When the detective asked if she could get more Hydrocodone because they made her feel good, Roush replied, “Absolutely.”  He then wrote her a prescription for 90 Hydrocodone pills and 60 counts of Oxycodone.

Roush made comments to both of the female undercover detectives that were lewd in nature. He also asked them if they were law enforcement officers, if they were wearing wires, and if they had heard about people being arrested for prescribing controlled narcotics, according to deputies.

“Our detectives simply made appointments with Dr. Roush, and he handed over prescriptions for controlled narcotics. Well, now we’ve made an appointment for Dr. Roush in the county jail. This guy is nothing more than a dope dealer with a criminal history. We hope he never again practices medicine, and we will do everything we can to ensure that his license is taken away,” said Sheriff Grady Judd.

Roush was previously arrested on several charges including, DUI with property damage, assault and domestic violence battery. He was also reprimanded in 2007 by the state Department of Health, fined an administrative fee of $10,000, and ordered to complete 25 hours of community service.

Today, Roush faces three counts of trafficking in Hydrocodone, four counts of trafficking in Oxycodone, and four counts of assisting others to obtained a controlled substance.

Deputies said, Roush had in his car today when he was arrested, some methamphetamines, marijuana, Xanax without a prescription, and Valium without a prescription.  He will face additional charges for the possession of these illegal substances, deputies also said.

  1. Sounds like this was entrapment of a trusting Dr. who was willing to prescribe pain meds to help someone. Even the good Dr’s can’t weed out every single drug seller. I would love to see the full unedited transcript of what these two female DT’s conversation with Dr Roush. It’s hard enough to find a Dr to treat one’s pain nowadays but to blatantly lie and use two females to get this man arrested is sickening. So the DT’s lie about getting xrays and mri’s done, lied about their ailments and about being cops wired for sound. You obviously had it out for this Dr from the very beginning and did and said whatever it took to put him out of business. Although I am a fan of the sheriff I am appalled at the way you ran this so called sting. I’m sure the pcso broke some laws here themselves and hope Dr Roush walks away from this and I’d able to help those truly in need in the future. Huge up those skirts a little more and maybe he would have given you don’t need for those yeast infections you surely have.

  4. Aaron Roush is a liar that will play victim to whomever will believe. He is a coward for continuing to run and hide from the truth! The people he’s harmed/killed with his negligence, the children he refuses to support, and the people he’s abused will never be forgotten! Aaron Roush helped enable drug abusers/drug dealers with his overly lienant prescribing practices! I doubt he’s able to look anyone in the face with those puffy eyes and saggy face(probably from the stress of living a lie) to say that he’s innocent…on second thought I bet he can but thats only because he’s delusional…kinda like the people that support this loser;-) If anyone ever needs a laugh watch this guy in a social setting…his ridiculous and erratic behavior is sure to shine!
Lock him up and throw away the key!
