A 10-year-old boy who was accidentally shot with a BB gun by his 13-year-old brother, died Wednesday, Polk County deputies said.

Skyler Richardson, 10, and his brother, 13-year-old Taylor Richardson were shooting targets with their BB rifles outside the family’s residence in the 800 block on Otto Polk Road, Frostproof.

As the boys were playing, Taylor pointed his gun at Skyler and the 10-year-old was struck in the head at close range, deputies said.

The mother of the boys, 34-year-old Heather Richardson, who was inside the residence, was alerted and emergency medical services were notified.

Skyler was airlifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa, where he remained in critical condition since the accident on March 13th.  He died yesterday, deputies said.
