Governor Crist Urges Hurricane Preparedness

With the 2009 hurricane season officially underway – I hope you have taken time to make preparations for you and your families.
Five years ago today, we were reminded how costly a storm can be when Hurricane Charley passed over our state.
The single storm not only caused billions of dollars in damages, it cost human lives.
I am grateful for the way Floridians came together in the aftermath – in generous support of impacted families and communities.
In times of need, we help each other and keep moving forward toward recovery. That is the spirit of this great state and her residents.
But, our beautiful landscape makes us vulnerable to hurricanes, and I strongly urge you to be prepared in anticipation of a potential storm.
Taking the necessary precautions will ensure that we are ready when a devastating storm strikes again.
Floridians can go to FloridaDisaster.org for help making business and family plans, tips for protecting property during a storm, and checklists for disaster supplies. Additionally, pet disaster plans are available there too.
Meanwhile, residents on the coast should become familiar with the evacuation routes in their area.
I pray disaster does not strike this season. But if it does, Florida will be ready. Thank you and God bless our beautiful state.
