A man is believed dead after he was swallowed by a sinkhole beneath his bedroom in a home in Brandon near Tampa Bay, late on Thursday night.

Jeremy Bush said he heard a loud crash as some of the family was watching TV around 11:00 p.m.  That’s when he rushed to his brother’s, Jeff Bush’s bedroom and saw his dresser, mattress and box spring swallowed in the hole, myfoxtampabay.com reports.

“We heard a loud crash. I ran in there and heard somebody screaming, my brother screaming, and I ran all in there,” he said, choking back tears,” myfoxtampabay.com also reported.  “And all I see is this big hole. All I see is the top of his bed. I didn’t see anything else, so I jumped in the hole and tried digging him out. And I couldn’t get him. I could hear him screaming for me, hollering for me.”

According to news reports, when fire and rescue officials arrived at the house at 240 Faithway Drive, no signs of life were heard.  There is no confirmation of Jeff Bush’s condition, but officials say there is a recovery mission underway, not a rescue mission.
