The Florida Agency for Health Care Administration has reached settlements that will lead to Humana Medical Plan, Inc., and Molina Healthcare of Florida, Inc., receiving contracts in the new Medicaid managed-care system for seniors who need long-term care.
Humana and Molina gave notice last month that they would challenge AHCA decisions that would have shut them out of the program.
AHCA had awarded contracts to five other firms in 11 geographic regions of the state. But the agency announced Friday that it settled the disputes, with Molina and Humana slated to get contracts that will allow them to participate in three regions each.
Molina will be able to compete with other firms in two Tampa Bay-area regions and in a region that includes Miami-Dade and Monroe counties.
Humana will be able to participate in northeast Florida, Broward County and the region that includes Miami-Dade and Monroe.
One other bidder, Little Havana Activities & Nutrition Centers of Dade County, Inc., also has challenged AHCA’s decision to deny it contracts. That dispute has not been resolved.
The state expects to start using the new long term-care system later this year in the Orlando area and will gradually expand to other parts of the state.
