Potential employers wouldn’t be able to use a job applicant’s credit history to make hiring decisions in many cases under a bill that cleared a Senate Committee Tuesday.
Employers could use a credit check in deciding whether to hire someone in a management or supervisory role, or someone who has some authority over paying the company’s bills.
The bill (SB 100), sponsored by Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, was passed unanimously by the Senate Commerce and Tourism Committee on Tuesday and now goes to the Judiciary Committee.
