Orange County Health Department’s Director, Dr. Kevin Sherin has been appointed Interim Director of the Division for Disease Control and Health Protection, State Surgeon General Dr. John Armstrong announced Thursday. Sherin will oversee bureau programs of communicable diseases, environmental health and epidemiology. His appointment takes effect on January 11th.
“Dr. Sherin brings tremendous skills in collaboration and leadership to this division,” said Dr. Armstrong, in a statement. “He understands that disease control is best achieved through integrated state, county, and community efforts.”
Prior to his work in Orange County, he was a residency Director at the University of Illinois Family Medicine Residency at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Chicago from 1994-2004. Between 1990-2000, Dr. Sherin established three HIV clinics in three cities, and two states and served as an HIV Clinician. He has authored and is publishing guidelines for HIV in Public Health and Primary Care.
