Homeowners whose properties were left uninhabitable following Tropical Storm Debby or Hurricane Isaac earlier this year would be eligible for property tax breaks of up to $1,500 under a bill introduced Tuesday.
The measure, HB 43, would waive local property taxes on homes for the portion of the year they were uninhabitable, under a measure sponsored by Rep. Elizabeth Porter, R-Lake City.
Debby dumped copious amounts of rain in June along the panhandle and across north Florida. Damage in Columbia County was estimated at $20 million as high water affected residents long after the storm moved north.
Hurricane Isaac swamped Palm Beach County with torrential rains before moving to make landfall in Louisiana.
