It took a jury just over three hours on Monday to find Dorice “Dee Dee” Moore guilty of killing Polk County lottery winner, 43-year-old Abraham Shakespeare in 2009.
Moore, 40 was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Shakespeare and a judge sentenced her to life without the possibility of parole. In addition, Moore was sentenced to an additional minimum mandatory 25 years in prison by Judge Emmett Battles.
Prosecutors successfully argued that Moore befriended Shakespeare after he won some $31 million in the Florida Lottery in later 2006, swindled him and shot him twice in the chest on April 6, 2009. Prosecutors also say, Moore buried Shakespeare’s body and covered it with concrete in the backyard of a home owned by her boyfriend.
Judge Battles, in handing down Moore’s sentence described her as “cold, calculating and cruel… and possibly the most manipulative person the court has ever seen.”
According to news reports, Moore showed little emotion as the jury foreman read the verdict and did not take the witness stand in her own defense.
