Troopers have identified the driver of a dump truck who was killed after he drove into the direct path of an Amtrak train on Thursday.
The deceased is 44-year-old Seeram Matadial of Orlando.
Eyewitnesses told troopers that the dump truck which was traveling westbound on Glen Rose Avenue, failed to stop at the stop sign before entering onto the tracks. An Amtrak train, traveling southbound at 60 mph and below the speed limit of 70 mph, struck the dump truck on the right side.
The dump truck broke into multiple pieces and Matadial was ejected, troopers say. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
A brief fire that ignited due to the diesel from the dump truck extinguished itself.
Ten persons from the train who suffered minor injuries, were taken to three area hospitals for treatment. The Amtrak was carrying 140 passengers and 13 crew.
Florida Highway Patrol said, the crash remains under investigation.
