Jacobs Proclaims “STEM Week” in Orange County

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs has signed a proclamation declaring December 3 – December 7, as officially “STEM Week” in Orange County.

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

“STEM Week” coincides with the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC).   I/ITSEC annually fills the Orange County Convention Center with more than 20,000 registrants and serves as a prime opportunity for hands-on STEM demonstrations and motivation for young people.

Orange County Commissioner Fred Brummer will present the signed proclamation to Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Barbara M. Jenkins and Team Orlando at a special ceremony on Mon., Dec. 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Orange County Convention Center on the I/ITSEC showroom floor (Warfighters Corner).

The push for STEM takes on added significance, given that the Central Florida area is widely recognized as the nation’s center of excellence for modeling, simulation, and training.

  1. Our son, Joseph has attended a STEM function each of the last two years. It has really inspired him to study harder and focus more. His grades are way up and I am sure that the STEM connection had a lot to do with it. Of course, the occasional slap to the back of his head helped also.
