City Kicks Off LYMMO Expansion, Announces Contest to Name Routes

The City of Orlando, in partnership with LYNX on Wednesday, kicked-off the construction of the six-mile LYMMO expansion project. When complete in late 2013, the free Downtown circulator will serve 22 new destinations including Thornton Park, Parramore, the Creative Village and Downtown Orlando SunRail stations.

As part of the construction kick-off, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced a contest allowing residents to name the three LYMMO routes that will run through Downtown Orlando.  The Mayor seeks suggestions that reflect Orlando’s history, place or culture. Residents who wish to make suggestions can visit the website: www.cityoforlando.net. The contest will end November 30, 2012.

Once the expansion of the LYMMO system is completed, ridership is estimated to increase to more than 4,500 per day. Service on the expanded lines will operate at 10 minute frequency headways during peak hours and every 15 minutes during off peak hours, evenings and weekends. The operating hours will be weekdays 6 a.m-10 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-midnight; and Sunday 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
