Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll on Thursday highlighted the Navy’s groundbreaking for its new Strategic Weapons System Ashore submarine missile test complex facility at Cape Canaveral.
The project is expected to bring up to 100 high salary jobs to the area in the next three years.
Space Florida will kick in $5 million in capital improvements over three years for the rebuilding of the site. A 1950s-era missile testing complex at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station will be refurbished for the project.
Currently, launch systems, fire control, guidance and navigation, and the actual missiles themselves, are all tested at separate locations. The new program will combine them at Cape Canaveral. Construction is slated to be finished in 2015.
