Local police and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) officers raided the offices of Dr. Conrad Murray, Michael Jackson’s cardiologist who was with him when he died last month.
Upon obtaining a search warrant, officers removed documents and the forensic image of a computer hard drive from the doctor’s office in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Murray’s lawyer said that police was searching the clinic for evidence of manslaughter.
Since the sudden death of the King of Pop, there has been much controversy over whether the singer was injected drugs that could have precipitated his death. In particular, law enforcement officers are looking into whether Jackson was given the powerful drug, propofol otherwise known as Diprivan, which is used to put patients to sleep before surgery. The drug is not available over the counter or by prescription and should only be administered in a hospital setting and in very strict doses.
Dr. Murray has denied giving any medicine that could have caused Jackson’s death.
Meanwhile, the LAPD subpoenaed Cherilyn Lee, Jackson’s nutritionist between January and April, and who has spoken out publicly saying that Jackson repeatedly begged for propofol to help him sleep. Lee has said that she told the singer, once she became aware of the drug that, it was dangerous and she would not be assisting him in obtaining it.
If the toxicology results find evidence of propofol in Jackson’s body at the time of this death, and law enforcement is able to link the supplier of the drug to a particular doctor who administered the drug, then legal experts believe that manslaughter charges, most likely will be brought.
In another development Wednesday, new court papers were filed by Jackson’s mother, Katherine, who sources say, might be planning to challenge the executors of the Pop Star’s will.
