Officials in Miami-Dade County’s elections office decided to allow voters to cast absentee ballots in person at one suburban office on Sunday, but when a long line formed shut it down, only to open it again for a while later.
The Miami Herald reported that several voters complained about not being allowed to vote by absentee, with the statutory period for early voting having ended Saturday, although they’ll be able to vote on the regular Election Day, on Tuesday.
Democrats, meanwhile, have filed a lawsuit in Miami-Dade County to try to force more early voting, which has been shortened this year. It’s not clear when the federal lawsuit might be heard, or whether if a judge ordered voting on Monday, the last day before the election, officials could quickly set up voting sites.
