Barricaded Man Sprayed Out from Underground Hiding Place

Rodney Werst

A man who held deputies off for several hours, was eventually sprayed out of his hiding place, underneath a home in Ocoee, on Wedneday night.

Rodney Werst, 43, was found secreted under a house in the 2200 block of West Road in Ocoee, around 7:00 p.m.

Deputies, who had set up a perimeter around the house, made repeated attempts to get Werst to surrender, but to no avail.

Werst was eventually sprayed out from his underground hiding place under the house.

Investigators first received a 911 call from a female stating that her male roommate was violent and had thrown her out of the house.

Although deputies determined that Werst had not committed a significant crime against the female caller, he had several outstanding felony warrants, including carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon, battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and resisting arrest with violence.

Werst was treated for spray exposure on the scene and booked into the Orange County Jail on the outstanding warrants.
