The 60 black kids from the Creative Steps Day Camp that were turned away from a private swimming pool in Philadelphia earlier this month, will receive a treat of a life time from multi-million dollar actor and playwright, Tyler Perry.
Perry will underwrite a trip to Disney World for the 60 kids from August 1st through August 3rd. The actor will pick up airfare, food, hotel and admission fees.
The Valley Swim Club, which had barred the kids from using the pool although they had paid in excess of $1,900 for its use over the summer, has been at the center of a firestorm, with cries of racial discrimination.
The management of the Valley Swim Club said race was not the issue but one of safety and the monies were refunded to the Camp leaders. They subsequently invited the kids back to the Club to use the pool.
Perry writes on his website that, he is confused and that he was so mad, he knew he had to do something for the kids. “You know that one small act of kindness can change your life”, he says.
“I want them to know that for every act of evil that a few people will throw at you, there are millions more who will do something kind for them. This is all about the kids”, Perry says.
