Man who Lied to Protect Best Friend in Teen Murder Case, Arrested

Antione McLaren – close personal friend of Bessman Okafor, suspect shooter of Alex Zaldivar.

Police have arrested a man who provided false information in connection with a home invasion which resulted in the death of teenager last month.

27-year-old Antoine McLaren, a close personal friend of the suspected shooter, Bessman Okafor, committed perjury during interviews and provided false information to law enforcement, police say.

Alex Zaldivar, 19, was shot and killed during a home invasion when gunmen entered a home at 503 Bernandino Drive in Ocoee, on September 10th. Two other persons were shot during the armed home invasion, 23-year-old Remington Campos and 20-year-old Brienna Campos.

The day after Zaldivar’s murder, Okafor was arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm, burglary of a dwelling with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, among other charges.

While police have provided few details surrounding the home invasion and Zaldivar’s murder, they say McLaren provided false information to law enforcement.

McLaren was arrested Friday by members of the Fugitive Intel Unit and taken into custody.  He will be booked into the Orange County Jail later today.
