Florida Health Department Confirms Second Death in Meningitis Outbreak

A second person as died in Florida from the nationwide meningitis outbreak, the Florida Department of Health confirmed Thursday.

He is an 83-year-old man in Marion County who was injected with one of the contaminated lots from the New England Compounding Center, used for epidural back injections.

Earlier this week, the DOH said, a 70-year-old man had died back in July from the contaminated drug.

The total meningitis case count in Florida has been increased to seven, with an additional 48-year-old man receiving treatment in Marion County.

Nationwide, the number of cases of fungal meningitis since the outbreak is 138, with 13 deaths across 10 states.
