Troopers confirmed today that the owner of a Gold 2004 Toyota Corolla that struck two 14-year-old girls in March, killing one of them, then fled the scene of the crash, remains a person of interest.
50-year-old Danielle Haverson, of Deland, is a person of interest, as troopers try to determine who was driving the vehicle the night that 14-year-old Julianne Hobbs was struck and killed on March 19, earlier this year.
Julianne and her friend, Rachael Russell, also 14-year-old, were walking along Sprring Garden Avenue near Jeanette Drive in Volusia County, when they were hit. Julianne was airlifted to Halifax Medical Center, where she subsequently died of her injuries.
Troopers have confirmed that the girls were hit by a Gold 2004 Toyota Corolla owned by Halverson, which fled the scene of the crash. DNA evidence, troopers say, places the vehicle at the crash scene.
Florida Highway Patrol say the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
