Wawa To Open Fifth Florida Store on Silver Star Road

Wawa Inc.  announced Monday the grand opening of their fifth store in the state of Florida and their 600th Store to open chain-wide.  It is the fifth of five Wawa stores to open in five weeks in the Greater Orlando area.

The grand opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, August 15, at 2500 Silver Star Road in Orlando, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

During this opening ceremony, Wawa will be joined by Congressman Daniel Webster of Florida’s 8th District, Orange County Commissioner Tiffany Moore Russell, Orlando Chief of Police Paul Rooney, Wawa’s Chairman Richard D. Wood, President and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Florida Dave Krepcho, local officials and community members who will take part in a ribbon cutting ceremony, a sampling of Wawa products and a charitable hoagie building competition featuring the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and the Orange County Fire & Rescue and the Orlando Police Department.

The grand opening event will also celebrate Wawa’s partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. During the event, Wawa will present Second Harvest Food Bank with a check for $35,000!  At the beginning of their five-week launch, Wawa committed to donating a portion of hoagie sales for these first five stores (up to $5,000 per store) to Second Harvest Food Bank, with a goal to raise and donate $25,000 in five weeks time.  Not only did Wawa successfully raise $25,000, but they have decided to donate an additional $10,000 to the cause, to show their depth of commitment and support.

It’s been an incredible five weeks, and we find it very fitting that our fifth grand opening in the sunshine state also marks our 600th store to open chain-wide as it nicely rounds out this landmark occasion,” said Howard Stoeckel, Wawa’s CEO.  “We couldn’t be prouder that we have made our goal of supporting the Second Harvest Food Bank a reality, and we are thrilled to present them with a $35,000 check that will help fight hunger in the Orlando community in a meaningful way.”
