Students of the Central Florida Leadership Academy in Orlando recently got to gain a deeper understanding of their community when they served up holiday lunches to seniors at the Beardall Senior Center, downtown.
Each year every student plans and participates in a service project that they select. In addition to assisting seniors at the Beardall Center, this year’s projects included collecting money for Breast Cancer; assisting the First Christian Church of Orlando collect canned goods for the needy; donating hygiene products to the Homeless Coalition; and assisting at various local senior centers.
“Students learn leadership, responsibility and develop a deeper understanding of their community and its needs through participating in service projects,” said Tiffany Ward, Principal, Central Florida Leadership Academy.
Also, as one of her students recently noted, “it just makes me feel good to help others.”
CFLA is an Orlando charter school offering college preparatory academics and character education free of charge to Orange County students.
