Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio’s campaign has agreed to pay a fine of $8,000 for accepting improper campaign contributions to the tune of slightly more than $210,000.
In a settlement reached last month with the Federal Elections Commission (FEC), Rubio’s campaign acknowledged that improper contributions were accepted and agreed to pay the $8,000.
The FEC described the $210,000 as “prohibited, excessive and other impermissible contributions.”
According to huffingtonpost.com, the information was released on the FEC’s website and was first reported last Friday by Politico.
Rubio has recently been touted as a possible vice-presidential candidate for the presumptive Republican nominee, Mitt Romney.
A darling of the Tea Party, Rubio was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010, in a three-way race with former Florida governor Charlie Crist, then an independent candidate, and Democrat Kendrick Meek.
