Lake County Firefighter Arrested After Raiding Union Fund

Kevin Chamberlain - suspect

A Lake County firefighter was arrested Thursday, accused of raiding the firefighters’ union fund, of which he was the treasurer.

43-year-old Kevin Chamberlain turned himself into the Lake County Jail today. He has been charged with one count of organized fraud and two counts of grand theft.

Lake County deputies said, Chamberlain used the firefighter’s union fund to the tune of nearly $17,000, to make purchases at stores like Old Time Pottery, Sumter Electric, Sam’s Club, Carnival Cruise Lines and Ebay, for his own benefit.

The investigation began in July 2011, after complaints were received regarding suspicious transactions with union funds.

Chamberlain was the treasurer of the International Association of Firefighters Union.

After a warrant was issued for Chamberlain’s arrest Wednesday, he turned himself into the Lake County Jail today, deputies said. Chamberlain was released on a $10,000 bond.
