A man who shook his 3-week-old infant son to death was charged today with aggravated manslaughter, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies said.
20-year-old Jacob Hartley, of Stoney Drive in Lakeland, was arrested after admitting to detectives that he shook the infant on two occasions.
The infant’s mother found the baby boy unresponsive and bleeding from this nose and mouth, just before 6:00 a.m. today. The boy was transported to the Bartow Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hartley told investigators that he was attempting to play video games and the baby would not stop crying. He said he shook the baby one week ago and again yesterday.
Hartley has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child and aggravated child abuse. He was booked into the Polk County Jail.
