Lynum to Host Foreclosure Prevention Workshop

Daisy W. Lynum, Mayor Pro Tem and Orlando City Commissioner, District 5, will host a free education workshop on Foreclosure Prevention and Predatory Lending on Saturday, May 3, 2008, from 9:00 am. to 1:00 pm. at the Northwest Community Center, 3955 W.D. Judge Drive, Orlando. For the past three years, Commissioner Lynum has taken the mortgage foreclosure and predatory lending practice concerns to Congress as a part of the National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials. In January, the NBC-LEO members met with House Majority Whip, Congressman James E. Clyburn, Congressman Barney Frank, Chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services, Congressman Melvin L. Watt, Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, II, and other committee members, who promised that help is on the way. In the meantime, Commissioner Lynum urged each City Commissioner to host an educational workshop on foreclosure and predatory lending practices in each district citywide. Orlando’s Housing Department Director, Lelia Allen, has coordinated the teams of housing and finance organizations to provide counseling and information that could help those in trouble and prevent others from entering into predatory type financial contracts.

If you need help or know of someone who needs information regarding mortgage foreclosure, invite them to attend this free workshop.
