Orlando: Election Day

l-r: Buddy Dyer, Phil Diamond, Mike Cantone and Ken Mulvaney

Orlando mayoral and four commission district elections got underway early on Tuesday morning.

Incumbent Mayor Buddy Dyer is in a four-way contest with Phil Diamond, District 1 commissioner, businessman Ken Mulvaney and community activist Mike Cantone.

In the event of an Orlando run-off – where no single candidate garners 50% of the vote plus one – this will be held on May 1st.

Polls opened at 7:00 a.m. and will close at 7:00 p.m., and according to poll watchers, turnout has been low.

Districts 2, 4, and 6 are also up for grabs, with a special election being held in District 1.  Incumbent Commissioners Tony Ortiz (District 2), Patty Sheehan (District 4) and Sam Ings (District 6) all face challengers.

The Orange County Supervisor of Elections, overseeing the conduct of the Orlando municipal elections, reports some 7,388 absentee ballots have already been cast.

Early voting took place during the period March 26 to 31st.
