Statement wins for Men’s Volleyball and Flag Football

Logan Maladecki finished with 12 kills, two blocks and an ace to lead Dr. Phillips Men’s Volleyball to an impressive three-game sweep of visiting Olympia for their sixth straight victory, lifting their record to 8-2. All three games were tightly contested but none more than the first, 29-27. DP took game two, 25-23, and sealed thenight with a 25-21 victory in game three. Hunter Heide had a strong outing with 11 kills and an ace. JV Volleyball registered their third straight win with a 25-21,25-23 victory over Olympia. The Panthers (3-1) found themselves down in gametwo, 9-0, but roared back to life and finished off the Titans with a tremendous kill by Nate Lyra.Michael Sanders led the defense with 13 digs.

Hannah Schaible threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth as DP Flag Football picked up their second shutout in as many games in a 27-0 victory over host Freedom. After a scoreless first quarter, DP tacked three scores on the board in the second. Schaible connected with Jade Cheek for a 15-yard score with an extra point pass to I’munique Green for a 7-0 lead. After the DP defense held, the Panthers went right back to work on their ensuing drive. Senior Ashley Vevera scored her first career touchdown, a 24-yard pass play from Schaible, and Malia Harrison caught the extra point pass as the lead doubled to 14-0. As the second quarter wound down, the Panthers got it done again. Schaible and Vevera connected for big gains before Schaible tight roped down thesidelines from ten yards out to send DP into the half up 21-0. In the third quarter, DP took their opening possession the length of the field. Malia Harrison and Jade Cheek were the primary targets and Schaible capped the drive with another 15-yard scoring pass to Jade Cheek for the 27-0 final. Schaible completed 20 of 28 passes with Shya Garrett, Jade Cheek and Ashley Vevera hauling in five receptions each. Daija Phillips led the defense with seven flag pulls and two sacks.

Men’s Lacrosse jumped back into the win column with a 15-5 win over visiting Trinity Prep. Dexter Wiley scored a team-high five goals and assisted on a sixth to lead the assault. Ian Decker and Ryan Totten notched three goals each with Totten adding and assist and Brett Forwardended the night with two goals and a team-high five assists.

Men’s Weightlifting (7-1) picked up two more victories Wednesday afternoon in tri-meet victories over host Wekiva (47-43) and Apopka (49-39). First place finishers included Justus Griffith(119), Thomas Armstrong (154) and Brad Bindas(169), who shattered his own school record with a total lift of 580 pounds which includes a record 265 lb lift in the clean and jerk. Jerome Howard(119), Justyn Nakashima (139), Damarrion Ginlack(154), Maurice Small(169) and VictorClavier (238) earned runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes.

Softball couldn’t get the bats going in an 8-0 loss to visiting Pine Castle , droppin gtheir record to 10-5 on the season. JV Softball, down4-3 in the seventh inning to Pine Castle, put themselves in aposition to win with runners on second and third and two outs but a play at the plate ended the rally and the game. Donna Ryan went 2-3 at the plate and Megan Maladecki drove in two runs with a double. JV (5-6) wraps up their season Tuesday at LakeHighland.

Rivalry games are on tap for two programs tonight as Women’s Lacrosse heads to Olympia and Water Polo teams take on Lake Nona (at Lake Highland pool).
