Boy, Girl $1.2 million IPad Heist Foiled

Orange County deputies say, a plot to rob a Best Buy Store of over $1 million in Apple products was foiled on Thursday.

24-year-old Jasmin Roman and 26-year-old Juan Carlos Ortiz Valez, had plans to rob the Best Buy Store, 8350 South Orange Blossom Trail, of Ipad 3’s valued at $1.2 million, deputies said.

A deputy, parked near the Florida Mall saw a suspicious van pull up to the store around 4:00 a.m., and a man dressed in all black exited the vehicle.

Deputies detained two people who later turned out to be Roman and Ortiz Valez and searched the van. That’s when they found, 2.45 handguns, 8 handcuffs, chains and locks, masks, gloves, binoculars, mace and a knife.

Deputies said the two planned to restrain store employees and rob the Best Buy Store of its Apple products.

Authorities also said, Roman was an employee of the Store and the mastermind behind the planned heist . Ortiz Valez is Roman’s boyfriend and a former employee of Best Buy.

Roman and Ortiz Valez have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit kidnapping with a firearm.

The two were booked into the Orange County Jail.
