Deputy, Driver Suffer Injuries in OBT Crash

An Orange County Deputy Sheriff and the driver of a Ford pick-up are recovering from minor injuries after a crash on OBT Thursday night.

Investigators said, D/S Eloida Padilla was heading south on Orange Blossom Trail, when 56-year-old James Burnett, the driver of the pick-up crossed into her direct path. Burnett was attempting to make a left turn to travel onto 41st when the crash occurred.

Padilla’s 2006 Chevy hit the right side of pick-up causing it to overturn, troopers said.

Attempting to avoid hitting the pick-up, Padilla also struck a parked Lexus at a nearby gas station, FHP said.

Padilla and Burnett sustained minor injuries and were taken to the Orlando Regional Regional Medical Center.

A passenger in the pick-up, Richard Burnett, 51, was not hurt.

Troopers said, blood results from Burnett are being awaited to determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash. Charges are pending, troopers also said.
