Sanford police are continuing to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting death of a 17-year-old on Sunday night.
Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot and killed during an encounter with 25-year-old George Zimmerman, at The Retreat at Twin Lakes Townhomes in Sanford, police say.
When investigators arrived at the location, Martin was found dead behind the townhomes.
Police also say, at the time of the encounter with Martin, Zimmerman, a white male, was serving in the role of neighborhood watch member.
Investigators have not released any details of the encounter between the two, but say, Zimmerman is cooperating with police and is not under arrest at this time.
Martin, a black male, was in Sanford visiting friends of the family for the week, when he was shot and killed.
The investigation is continuing.
If a white boy was shot the man would be in jail. If a black man shot a white boy visiting family he would be in jail!! where is the justice no justice at all. boy coming from store with candy no knife no gun nothing and dies. seminole county is not right color always plays a part

This black punk defied a 28 yr old Jewish man who was living with his momma. Another Jewish neighborhood said the kid attacked Zimmerman.
No doubt there will be plenty of other witnesses that will come forward to the aid of their brother.
reply to “SafSM;” You seem to have more information about the story than what is stated above. What do Jews have to do with it? This tradgedy has “racial wedge issue” writen all over it. We can speculate all day, but I think we shouldn’t jump to conclusions with so few facts.
I looked up Zimmerman and found Ashkanazem Jew. I grew up with Jews named Zimmerman. So true, I took a leap. Time will tell if I am right. The real wedge issue is the fact that most people know but won’t admit that if the colors of the people were reversed in this case, the official procedure would have most likely been different. Yes, it is a game of divide and conquer that is played out on the powerless to keep us all in check; and some group is doing everything it must to make sure that black people remain the most deprived. Someone responded to my comment and called Trayvon Martin a punk. I say the definition of punk is a 25+ year old man who takes a gun, to go after a 17 year old child who is reportedly, not doing anything wrong and has no idea that the gunslinger is coming after him. In case that went over any heads, the 25+ year old man is the punk.

Okay first of all this kid would not just randomly walk up and attack somebody. Just because he was a black kid in a primarily white neighborhood Captain Neighborhood Watch decided to assert his manliness and mess with th kid. Why can’t people just mind their business? He confronted him because he didn’t recognize him? So does that mean that if I have family tha lives there and I come visit them you will pick a fight with me and shoot me? I am White and this completely disgusts me. Neighborhood watch or not this guy should be behind bars. If the kid was breaking into someones car or house CALL THE POLICE. I appreciate your sensitivity to the totality of this issue. You don’t need to apologize for your race because, obviously, some of them don’t want you to do that. You’ve already made a powerful statement for yourself. If you can start that online petition, I’ll sign it. If I start it, I’ll let you know.
