The House Health & Human Services Committee is expected Thursday to approve a proposal that would increase state oversight of assisted-living facilities.
The committee held a workshop Tuesday to take public comments about the bill, which comes after The Miami Herald published a series of reports last year about dangerous conditions in some ALFs.
In part, the bill (PCB HHSC 12-04) would place new licensing and training requirements on ALF administrators.
Some ALF officials expressed concerns about the bill Tuesday, but Rep. Eddy Gonzalez, R-Hialeah, said the measure is not intended to target people who operate facilities properly.
