On Tuesday a judge ruled a fence could be erected at the Amway Center for the upcoming NBA All-Star Weekend activities.
A number of African-American merchants on west Church Street, had filed an injunction to prevent the fence from going up. They say, the fence would prevent them from making the most from the activities at the Amway Center, as they would be blocked out.
But the NBA argued, erection of the fence was a necessity given the high level of security required for the All-Star games.
Over the last several weeks, tensions have risen between the merchants and the city, on account of the fence, which once constructed leaves the west Church Street businesses on the outside.
Given today’s ruling, no word yet on the next move by the merchants.
Orlando expects some 60,000 out-of-town visitors to come into the area, generating an economic impact of $100 million over the NBA All-Star Weekend.
