Like Orlando, Orange County could soon have a domestic partner registry.
Last month, when Orlando implemented its registry, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs said, she was continuing to undertake “research” and was looking at the merits of creating an Orange County domestic partner registry.
Well, seems as if things are moving ahead swiftly. Jacobs met yesterday with gay activists about the registry and today, will finally make a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners on how to proceed. If a majority of the Board supports work will begin on a draft ordinance and gay couples could begin to sign up as early as spring or summer.
The Orlando Anti-Discrimination Ordinance Committee and other community leaders are expected to attend today’s meeting to urge the Board to vote to proceed with implementing a legally enforceable DP registry, modeled on the registry recently adopted by the City of Orlando.
“I’m feeling more and more confident that we’re gonna create policy here in Orange County that’s going to do everything possible to protect gay, lesbian and transgender families,” said Joe Saunders, Field Director, Equality Florida, cfnews13.com reports.
