The House could vote Wednesday to approve a three-day “sales tax holiday” in August that would be targeted at back-to-school shoppers.
The tax-free shopping period (HB 737) would be held from Aug. 3 through Aug. 5.
Shoppers would be able to avoid paying sales taxes on items such as clothing, shoes and bags that cost $75 or less. Also, they would receive sales-tax exemptions for school supplies valued at $15 or less.
The House originally proposed holding the tax holiday from Aug. 10 through Aug. 12, but changed the date Tuesday to accommodate people who go back to school earlier.
