A Lakeland High School teen died on Tuesday afternoon, after she was struck by a school bus, police said.
13-year-old Katlyn Rickman succumbed to her injuries at the Tampa General Hospital just after 4:30 p.m.
Lakeland police said, Katlyn was crossing West Beacon Road southbound from Camphor Drive, just after 3:00 p.m., when a school bus, stopped on Eden Parkway at the intersection initiated a left turn, hitting her.
Authorities say, 43-year-old Virginia Robinson was the driver of school bus at the time of the accident.
Robinson, a substitute driver, has been with the school district since August 2011.
The Polk County School district will have counselors on hand to help students and Robinson over the coming says.
Police said, they are continuing with their investigation.
