Mica Announces SunRail “Jobs through Connections” Project

At a SunRail workshop today in Orlando, Congressman John Mica (R-Winter Park) announced a major SunRail “Jobs through Connections” project.

The project’s main aim is to provide an environment for employers, developers, educational entities and local government leaders to come together to ensure that planning is coordinated and jobs are created around the 17 planned station stops of SunRail.

“Launching this initiative today will connect investors and employers to future passengers, resulting in positive development, high ridership and job growth,” Mica said in a released statement. “We want every SunRail station to maximize its potential and start that effort now, rather than after the system is built.”

Undertaken in partnership with MetroPlan Orlando, details on how the “Jobs through Connections” project will evolve remain sketchy.  But, Mica noted that, “today was a great step in the discussion…and that the issue needs to be monitored and fostered to make certain that SunRail reaches its full potential in growing economic development and jobs for the entire region.”

Today’s forum brought together more than 150 community, government and private sector leaders, including Florida Hospital, Orlando Health and SeaWorld.
