Police: Teen Crashes into Pick-Up and Kills Driver

Eustis Police say, criminal charges are pending against a teenage who crashed a vehicle into a pick-up truck on Friday night, killing the driver.

65-year-old Robert Morrison, of Eustis, died of his injuries at the Orlando Regional Medical Center, after a vehicle collided with his pick-up truck on Exeter Avenue.   Morrison told police he did not see the vehicle as its headlights had been turned off.

A Eustis police officer, around 9:30 p.m., had attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the black vehicle prior to the crash, when it was observed that the tail lights were inoperative.  But the unnamed 17-year-old male driver refused to stop even though the officer, in a marked patrol vehicle had activated the emergency lights and siren.  Cops said, the vehicle continued east on Hazzard Avenue, ignored the stop sign and turned south on Prescott Street.

Unable to get the teenager to stop and because of the speed at which the vehicle was traveling, the Eustis police officer turned off the patrol car’s siren and emergency lights. Shortly after, a loud bang was heard. That’s when the teen collided with Morrison’s pick-up truck.

Morrison was airlifted to ORMC, but died of his injuries.

Police say, the 17-year-old teen resides in Eustis and criminal charges are pending.

The traffic crash is being investigated by the Eustis Police Department.
