Motorcyclist Killed in Crash on Rio Grande Avenue

A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed on south Rio Grande Avenue in Orange County Wednesday afternoon, after he lost control of his bike when it collided with the roadway.

The accident occurred just after 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of south Rio Grande Avenue and west Miller Avenue.

Troopers said, a Dodge van, driven by Leroy A. Young, 48, was stopped at a stop sign facing eastbound on west Miller Avenue when motorcyclist, Olman Rodriguez, traveling southbound in the right lane on Rio Grande Avenue, made a change to the left lane, at a high rate of speed.

Young continued through the intersection and failed to yield the right of way, causing Rodriguez to lost control as a result, troopers said.

Rodriguez’s 2001 Suzuki Mitsubishi motorcycle collided with the roadway and he was ejected from the bike, colliding with the front of the Dodge van.

Rodriguez was pronounced dead on the scene.  He was not wearing a helmet.

Toxicology results are being awaited to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.

Troopers said, the crash remains under investigation.
